Your teeth are subject to daily wear and tear with age and use. Regular brushing, flossing and dental cleaning help maintain the health and strength of your teeth, but specialized treatments are needed to restore the shape and structure of damaged teeth.

Dental Crown

A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cover or cap that is placed over a damaged tooth to protect it and also help restore its size, shape and appearance. Crowns are generally manufactured using tough, yet natural looking materials such as porcelain or ceramic.

Crowns can be used as:

  • Protective Shields: A dental crown can act as a cover for highly stained or damaged teeth. Crowns can also be used to cover a weak tooth to prevent it from fracturing or further damage. They are also used to shield the tooth after a root canal treatment.
  • Replacement for lost teeth: crowns are a real-looking and real-functioning replacement for lost teeth. They are placed over a dental implant to provide a tooth-like structure and function.

Bridge

A dental bridge is used to bridge gaps caused by missing teeth. They span the space between the missing teeth and are fixed or cemented to your natural teeth or the implants on either side of the empty space. These teeth are covered with crowns and serve as anchors for the bridge, which will be covered with crowns that will act as replacement teeth. Similar to crowns, bridges are also fixed into the teeth and can only be removed by a dentist.

The material of the bridge used depends upon a number of factors such as:

  • The location of the teeth gap
  • How a patient wants the bridge to look
  • The function of the missing teeth
  • The budget

Generally, patients opt for porcelain or ceramic bridges, because they can be made to match the natural look and color of one’s teeth and do not give the appearance of replacement teeth.

Getting crowns and bridges for your teeth

Before a bridge or crown is placed, your teeth may have to be reduced in size in order to get the right fit. After this is done, an impression is taken for the laboratory where they will create your crown or bridge to match the natural color of your teeth.

This procedure takes a bit of time. Until the permanent crown or bridge is prepared, a temporary one is fitted to cover the area being repaired. Once the permanent device is ready, the temporary one is removed and the permanent one is cemented into place.

Maintaining a good oral hygiene regimen is essential to ensure the longevity of your bridge or crown. One should also avoid chewing very hard foods to prevent damage to a newly placed crown or bridge.

Kehinde B.

Best dental place ever!!. Everyone in there are very nice and friendly. And they do the dental job very comfortable. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Alexis M.

Everyone was polite and professional. Office and the rooms were clean and well kept. Equipment was up to date and in very good shape. Dr. Oleg Amayev was well spoken and to-the-point without being curt. My teeth look/feel great after the cleaning. I had a great dental experience in no longer than an hour after a long day of work. I’ll be going back in 6 months.

Jamil S.

Since I have been a patient of Dr. Oleg he has saved my teeth and has been very compassionate and engaged in my oral health. This line of work is really the office passion. Lastly, the reminders through text and phone calls are the greatest because I always remember when my next appointment is even if I lose my train of thought of when it is.
